writing exerpts from Bloom & Gloom Aaron Grey sat entirely still and entirely silent. His pupils swam in darkness, his body in shadow. With foreign breaths and a careful gaze, he watched.
“Don’t just stand there, get ‘em!” The Panther commanded, making a wild gesture towards the fleeing guards. Their walkie-talkies may have been bust, but their voices were still operable.
Nightshade did not speak, but they moved to Panther’s demand. Like a snake, they rushed from their position by the gaudy doors of the mansion towards the guards. The guards lasted only a moment longer before their necks were strangled tight by Nightshade’s poisonous vines.
Aaron Grey did not see the thorny vines emerge from Nightshade’s fingertips, but he did watch as they slowly retreated into the body, the green morphing back into a duller shade as it met their human skin. Between the obnoxiously loud colours of the mansion’s entryway, and the intense green of Nightshade’s skin, Aaron Grey felt almost as though he was watching a movie. It took a mental reminder of his physical presence in the room to remember to remain as motionless as possible.
from Teran's First Day The arched maple enveloped both Teran and the room as she stepped into it. The walls were coated in the same varnish as the door; the desk crafted from the same wood. Every surface shone with perfect, orange swirls. Teran was in awe.
“Welcome, welcome,” Zon said warmly, waving his left hand in the air to close the door, “please, sit.”
Teran sadly drew her eyes away from the gorgeous bookshelves and walls to find the comparatively unimpressive black office chairs nestled beneath Zon’s desk. She pulled a chair out and sat down slowly, careful not to scratch the flooring with her movements.
“I assume you know why you’re here?” Zon asked, still looking at her with a gentle smile.
Teran pressed her lips together and pulled her head down. She wanted nothing more than to vanish into thin air or melt between the beams.

This is why it has become responsible for liberal democratic backsliding in so many nations. Australia proves it possible to maintain liberal democracy without the need for a nation- wide nationalism; the United States proves nationalism in liberal parties does not prevent democratic backsliding; and Hungary’s staunchly nationalist conservative party was the reason for the nation’s democratic collapse. Liberalism does give rise to an opposition of nationalism – for what is more oppositional to a universal equality than a fearful border? Though this is not because liberalism is frail, but instead because liberalism lacks a collective (Palonen, 2025, p. 81). Collectives do not have to be national; there are ways to connect and build international belonging. It is not that liberalism needs the nation, but that liberalism needs the world.
from Envisioning Degrowth Degrowth’s innovative capabilities enable new sustainable practices, a more connected society, reduced exploitation, increased trust, and reduced surveillance. Despite its popular counterarguments involving job prosperity (Spash 2026, 267) and standards of living (Spash 2026, 270), degrowth’s principles of finding alternatives to instability, inequality, exploitation, and unsustainability prove its importance to a limited world with limited resources (both human and natural). The good of the shareholder must be replaced with the good of humanity. Through the application of degrowth to the digital economy, this good can be realized. Through the degrowth of the digital economy, the entire world will change for the better.
